Having undergone a £2.5 million transformation, the new York St John Students’ Union building is ideally located on a beautiful city centre university campus incorporating both York’s historic scenery with modern facilities.
Our new venue is fully equipped with everything to cater for a variety of events, from conferencing and presentation to evening events such as awards ceremonies or product launches. With full access to all floors and gender neutral facilities, our venue is designed to include everyone in everything we do.
Alternatively, our space can transform yet again to host celebrations, parties, or wedding receptions. With two bar-equipped function rooms, exclusive access throughout academic holiday dates, and much more, our venue can be anything you want it to be.
Our dedicated team will be on hand to tailor your event exclusively to you and your needs, and to execute those plans perfectly on the day.

Our venue is equipped with an integrated sound system and multiple plasma screens throughout both large function rooms, and our office spaces offer a modern and comfortable setting for smaller assemblies. It is also a mere 15 minutes’ walk from York Railway Station, making our venue ideal for events for both local and national guests.

Based in the heart of York, Habeo is a small team filled to the brim with talent and dedication. We aim to provide our clientele with a variety of services, from events such as conferences or celebrations, to media or website design and advertising opportunities, all delivered to the highest standard.
Habeo originated from the team at York St John’s Students’ Union, so our most productive environments are the ones where everybody feels happy, comfortable, and creative – which includes all of our clients! We also pride ourselves on providing a service that is both professional and personal; no job is too small, no idea too imaginative, because if it can be done, we will work with you to do it.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are your facilities accessible for disabled people?
- All of our facilities are accessible by lift, including a disabled toilet on each floor. In case of an emergency, we have evacuation chair at each stair point.
- We have limited blue badge spaces on a first come first served basis. A maximum of 2 spaces per event are bookable upon request and are subject to availability on that day. There is an NCP car park directly opposite the campus which also accommodates coaches – Union Terrace Car Park, YO31 7ES.
- Yes, we pride ourselves on the flexibility we offer for catering. We allow any food catering company to supply for events provided they have public liability insurance and full risk assessments which we will need to see before the event. We do have an onsite caterer who can also assist with events, please ask your Coordinator for the menu options!
- We do allow children in the building until 10pm, they must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult.
- We do not have facilities to accommodate overnight stays but we have great connections in the city centre should you need accommodation!
- The Duty Manager on shift shall be fully briefed on the event and will take care of the operations and anything you require on the day!
- We are licensed to operate the bar: Sunday – Thursday, 10.00-01.00, Friday and Saturday, 10.00 – 02.00.
- Yes – WiFi is provided for all events on a complimentary basis.
